Seeds of hope
BHF Higher Education Program
Lesotho urgently needs economic development and vocational opportunities for the Basotho people. Lasting change occurs when orphans and vulnerable youth gain job skills, vocational training, and economic support, enabling them to become self-sufficient. Seeds of Hope sponsors have provided life-changing opportunities, empowering vulnerable Basotho to earn a living—an immeasurable success in Lesotho.
This program supports BHF graduates who aspire to pursue higher education. Many BHF alumni are talented young individuals with limited opportunities for college, and this program creates a powerful impact on Lesotho’s future.
Seeds of Hope Beneficiaries:
Meet Monaheng: Monaheng, a beneficiary of the BH Seeds of Hope program, is pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Cape Town. A 2011 graduate of Leqele High School, he was selected for the program due to his exceptional academics, leadership skills, and extensive volunteer experience. During holiday breaks from the University, he comes to BHF mentorship gatherings and also takes time to speak to his alma mater, Leqele High School.
Meet Steven: Steven is currently in Cape Town studying Cyber Security, driven by his passion for computer security programming. He joined Bountiful Hope as a child while caring for his disabled mother and younger sister. As he grew older, he worked in low-wage garment factories in Maseru, fearing his dream of a Cyber Security certification was out of reach. However, with a Seeds of Hope sponsorship, he is now on his chosen path. Recently, he earned his CompTIA Security+ certification, bringing him closer to his goal of a career in security.
Meet 'Mapoule: ‘Mapoulo, a former teen mother and graduate of the Good Shepherd Centre Program, turned her passion for catering into a thriving business. She submitted a proposal to BHF for “seed funding” to expand her catering and decorating venture, which was approved. Since 2016, her business, Catering For A Change, has been a success, providing her with a steady income and creating jobs for other vulnerable youth. In Lesotho, financial independence for a woman is a significant achievement, and ‘Mapoulo is an inspiring role model for young women.
Meet Sello: Sello was one of Bountiful Hope’s first sponsored orphans. After losing his parents at age 9, he moved in with his grandmother. Following high school, he struggled to find a path to pursue his dream of becoming a Production Artist for film and TV. In 2018, with the support of a Seeds of Hope sponsorship, he enrolled at Limkokwing University to study the Arts. Passionate about giving back, Sello spends his free time volunteering with community drama groups and high school students. He often says, "When one is living life in their giftedness, everything blooms."
